Print, photographic, black & white, Front- ten young girls sitting in the back of pickup truck, wearing crowns, tutus, dark or light color tops, sign reads- "Queens of 1982 Bartlett Women's Club", part of parade with other vehicles in front, buildings in background. It was the 1962 Bartlett Volunteer Fire Department's annual August weekend event, the Firemen's Festival. To celebrate its 25th year of the festival, a parade was added which became part of the weekend until the festival ended in 1969. The parade wound through the heart of old Bartlett and ended at Bartlett Park, the site of the festival. Pictured here is the entry for the Bartlett Woman's Club (correct spelling) which featured "future queens of 1982," which would have been 20 years in the future. Sitting left to right, Susan Mayer, Cindy Phelps, Lori Sorensen, Julie Humbracht Kern, Vanessa Herbener, Gail Jensen Hazle, Sandra Carlson Volkening, Diane White DeRose, Dianne Peterson and Laury Taylor Patwardhan. The parade is heading north on Main Street. All the buildings on the right have since been razed for the Town Center. The building at the end, facing forward, is 110 W. Bartlett Avenue. At the time is was home to Schultz Hardware, today it houses several businesses. |
