Description |
Service medal, 3" x 1 1/2, goldtone metal and fabric, on front of medal is impression of woman with her foot on a helmet holding a sword and spike, stamped are words, "World War II" On back is words, "United States of America, 1941-1945", and "Freedom from fear and want" and "Freedom of speech and religion" Ribbon is vertical stripes of yellow, white, bright blue, purple and red. Box included. Label on box reads, Medal Campaign and Service, Victory, World War II, Medal U. S. Mint." World War II Service medal. The WW II Victory Medal was awarded to member of the armed forces who served between December 7, 1941 and December 31, 1946. This medal awarded to Basil "Doc" Ping (1922-2003) who enlisted in the Navy on December 23, 1942 from Bartlett. He was a Gunners Mate 1st Class and served in the Pacific & European Theaters. He was honorably discharged in November 1945 and returned to Bartlett to his wife Jane and infant daughter Jean. |
