Postcard, 5 1/2" w x 3 1/2 " l, sepia, front- image of 14 men total, 11 wearing uniforms with "BC" on left chest, 3 in the top middle row wearing suits, written in white at bottom- "Cubs", Bartlett, ILL", Back, in blue ink- "Property of Harvey Schnadt" "Play Ball!" This chant was heard for many years at Bartlett Park when the hometown team, the Bartlett Cubs, played on their turf beginning in the early 1900s. Here the team is pictured circa 1912. Front row, siting, left to right: Adrian O'Brien, Gustav Krumfuss, Fred Staib Middle row, left to right: Bob Bradley, Fred "Pat" Humbracht, Claude Bowman, Erwin "Erv" Schnadt, Herman Wendler, Carl Staib Back row, standing, left to right: Joseph "Ed" Easterday, Herman Schnadt (manager), George Watts, Mr. Wheat (umpire), Mr. Leedle (manager). Herman Schnadt was a Bartlett resident and businessman involved in several companies. He was also onetime owner of the Bartlett Tavern. George Watts was the manager of the Huntley Dairy (today site of Town Center). Joseph "Ed" Easterday was a onetime Bartlett depot agent. |
