Description |
Receipts, paper, rolled & tied bundles of receipts and expenditures from Bull's Meat Market. William "Billy" Bull was born in Mecklenburg, Germany on April 9, 1879, immigrating to this area in 1885. In 1910, the "popular young man and hustler, known in this community as a man of honesty and integrity," bought the meat trust of Hoth and Humbracht. He went onto open his meat market first on Main Street and later moved and built his new shop at 116 W. Bartlett Avenue. Back in those days, meat was not sold on Styrofoam trays wrapped in plastic. Meat was cut to order and wrapped in butcher paper and tried with string. What do you notice about Bull's business receipts? They are wrapped in butcher paper and tied with string! |
