Card, greeting, 4 3/4" w x 5 3/4" h (folded), paper, black, Front- hot pink cottage in wooded setting, smoke coming from chimney, goldtone full moon, light blue/purple trees line driveway, mailbox in foreground, printed in red, lower right- "Greetings", Inside- on left, goldtone/red mailbox filled, on right in white- "Best Wishes for a Happy Holiday Season and a properous New Year, The H. C. Thurnaus", hole punched in upper left corner. This holiday greeting illustration is produced on a black paper with a cozy hot pink cottage in the snowy woods of purple and silver. Unique colors for Christmas, right? The inside verse reads, "Best wishes for a Happy Holiday season and prosperous New Year." The card was sent, year unknown, to Bartlett residents Harvey and Elvina Brandt from Henry Thurnau (1888-1957) and Melinda Thurnau (1889-1980). The Thurnaus were one-time owners of The Sweet Spot, located at 130 W. Bartlett Avenue, today JC's Mexican Restaurant. They sold candy, ice cream, Rainbo bread, baked goods, pipes, chewing gum and more. Later, Henry partnered with his son-in-law Fred Benicke in Thurnau & Benicke Implement Co. once located on Main Street. Henry served as village president from 1945-1953. |
