Postcard, 3 1/4" w x 5 1/4" l, cardstock, cream, Front- illustration of home with flowers/trees/ fence with red heart behind, in red- "Valentine Thoughts", in blue- "Sweet thoughts of you...every day." Back- printed in goldtone- "Post Card, Made in U.S.A...Series 2026 A", place for stamp, In ink- "Marguerite P." on address side. Marguerite Piegorsch (1914-2001) was the daughter of Albert and Bertha Piegorsch. Their family farm was located on Lake Street. Marguerite attended Bartlett School along with her siblings. This undated postcard is from the estate of longtime Bartlett School teacher Elvira Ness Brandt (1902-1996). She moved to the village in 1926 and taught at Bartlett School for 21 years. Elvina saved so many Valentine cards from her students, like this one from Marguerite. After Marguerite finished her education, she and her sister Nancy had careers working at the Elgin National Watch Company. |
