Plate decorative, 10 1/4" dia., porcelain, white, goldtone rim, Front- three illustrations in burgundy color of churches, printed at bottom of plate- "Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church Bartlett, Illinois", Back- information/history about the Immanuel congregation. The congregation's formation dates to January 1871 as the Immanuel German Lutheran Society of Bloomingdale Township in DuPage County. In April 1876, the church and parsonage were moved by teams of horses over logs to Ontarioville, today Hanover Park where it continued to grow in membership. As the area grew in population, so did the congregation's membership. The old church was not large enough to support the needs of the congregation. In 1951, a church building fund was established named the "Kenneth Hansing Building Fund." The Hansing family established the fund in memory of their 24-year-old son Kenneth who passed away and encouraged others to donate for expansion or a new building. The church's 60th anniversary, in 1959, marked the official fund drive kick-off for building a new church. On Christmas Eve, 1959, the church held its first service in a partitioned-off area on the second floor of the Set Screw & Manufacturing Co. once located where the Town Center is today. Company President Calvin Brown was a member of Immanuel. On September 29, 1963 the ground-breaking ceremony for the new church was held with Rev. Lazarz wielding the shovel. The architectural firm of Anderson, Rehder and Yandre was chosen to design the new facility. The sanctuary could seat 256 parishioners. The building also had a basement for Sunday School and fellowship with a fully equipped kitchen for all those pot luck dinners. The corner-stone laying ceremony was held the following May. In 1992, the building was expanded along with upgrades including the adding of village water and sewer system, expanded parking lot, energy effect windows, sprinkler system and more. The addition, designed by Architect David Schultz, was added to the church's south elevation creating a larger narthex with included kitchenette facilities, main floor restrooms, dedicated nursery space and additional storage. |
