Book, record, 12" w x 7 1/2" l x 1/2" h, fabric cover, paper pages, template to keep score for ball game, lines for team vs. team names, at, date, start and end of game and total time, players names, and more, ads for Wilson products, manufactured by Wilson Athletic Equipment, written on cover in yellow- "Bartlett Cubs" , in goldtone- "Official Score Book, Wilson Athletic Equipment" "Play ball!" By the early 1900s, Bartlett had an amateur men's baseball team, the Bartlett Cubs. Local lore says the team's uniforms, were once worn by players on the Chicago Cubs, hence our team's name. Though the Chicago Cubs did at one time sell its old uniforms, no records were kept as to who bought them. The Bartlett Cubs played in Bartlett Park and competed against other area teams. The score book begins with the Bartlett Cubs in May 1935 and ends with the Bartlett Merchants on September 5, 1938. The first recorded game of the Bartlett Merchants is on April 24, 1938. The Merchants was a men's team sponsored by local Bartlett businesses. The players' uniforms had the name of a business on the back of the shirt. There are many empty pages. |
