Postcard, 3 1/2" x 5 1/2", paper, Front- illustration of blue flower boat sailing in water with dark blue birds surrounding it. Some birds have envelopes with hearts in their bills, green shamrocks growing along shore and streaming from boat mast. Goldtone accents and printed in lower right, "A Happy Birthday." Back- postmarked "Bartlett, ILL, Nov. 18, A.M. 1909," one cent stamp in upper right, addressed to "Mr. Ben Waterman, 430 Franklin St., Elgin, Ill." Message reads as written, "Nov. 18. Dear Ben, Wishing you many happy returns of the day and many more happy birthdays How did you get over your wedding trip fine and dandy I hope. We are all fine here hoping the same of you folks. good by Ben. From your brother Herman." Ben Waterman (1883-1963) married Emma Krumfuez (1884-1973) on November 9, 1909 in Kane County, IL. The couple had two children, Arthur and Ariel. Ben and another brother, William, formed a carpentry partnership from 1907 to1930, building many homes in Bartlett and Elgin. The Waterman family were early Bartlett settlers. |
