Description |
Postcard, 5 1/2" w x 3 1/2" l, black and white, Front- image taken outside in snow, several buildings and a moving steam locomotive in background. In foreground an evergreen tree and flagpole, printed in white, "Bartlett Ill.GJG" Back- unused. Then Bartlett resident Gary Gates took this image of a steam train passing through downtown and created a postcard of it. He was looking southwest from Oak Avenue. The two-story building was once home to Waterman's General Store, later O'Brien's General Store. The single story building in front is Bartlett's first depot erected in 1873. The pine tree in the center was once the Village's Christmas tree. The green space was also the site of the Village's flag pole. In the early 1960s, Bartlett Avenue was opened to the west from Oak Avenue eliminating the flagpole and tree. |
