Description |
Card, greeting, 7 1/4" l x 5" w (when flat) full color, fold down to make three-dimensional, illustration of pink roses, other flowers, surrounding young girl wearing dress and hat, printed in red on flap- "To my Valentine", on back- "Printed in Germany", in ink-"Miss Ness" and "From 19-21-26-1-14-14-1" Longtime Bartlett School teacher and resident Elvira Ness Brandt (1902-1996) moved to the village in 1926 and taught at Bartlett School for 21 years. Elvina saved many Valentine cards from her students like this one, which was printed in Germany. It is a fold down Valentine, with red honeycomb accents, that becomes three-dimensional. The little girl, amongst the roses, is holding an umbrella and is dressed in the flapper style of the late 1920s with her shorter skirt and cloche hat. On the back the card is addressed to then Miss Ness (she married in 1930) and the sender signed their name in code. Can you figure out the name of the sender? The numbers correspond to the letters of the alphabet. 19= S, 21= u, 26=z, 1=a, 14=n, 14=n, 1=a. The sender was Suzanna! Now if we only knew her last name. |
