Map, 43" w x 62" l, canvas, attached to wooden window shade roller on top, attached to black metal bar at bottom, Front- printed in black, "Hearne Brothers presents polyconic projection map of DuPage County Fox River Valley with Joliet," attached to front is numbered tape, Back- complete index of each street name is given. Hearne Brothers Maps was founded and based in Detroit, MI. In February 1933 a U.S. federal trademark registration was filed by them. The company produced maps for many cities, counties, etc. throughout the United States. Many are in the collection of the Library of Congress. This map features all the townships and communities located in DuPage County at that time. Why isn't Bartlett shown? The village did not annex into DuPage County until 1959. It was solely in Cook County at the time this map was produced. Note the Wayne Grove Forest Preserve was established. The first parcel was purchased 1923, making it one of the District's oldest preserves. Adjacent parcels were purchased in the 1930s, 1956 and 2000s. This map could be pulled down due to its mounting on a shade roller and perhaps used in a school or government facility. The numbered tape, attached to the front, allows the user to located each street, listed on the back by city. The key, located near the bottom, left side, lists the items included such as county and municipal boundaries, park area, cemeteries, drainage, railroads, golf and country clubs, acreage and more. |
