Novelty, promotional, plate, 6 1/2" dia., Front- two rows of goldtone banding around rim, transfer image of two people, one male and one female, laying on ground with golf clubs in foreground, in black- "Christy", "Fairly Won", "Term, CP'RT.MOFFA[?] YARD & O N.Y. 1907". The last wording is difficult to read and most likely not correct.. In goldtone- "Compliments of Fred C. Waterman, Bartlett, ILL." Back- in green-"Dresden, China" Fred C. Waterman Jr. opened his general store on March 1, 1907. It was located at the southwest corner of Railroad and Oak Avenues. At one time the two-story clapboard structure had a dance floor on the second floor operated by Waterman and a tavern in the basement under the proprietorship of another person. One 199 advertisement stated a dance was held every Saturday night! Fred served as a rural letter carrier and later the post office was located in his store where he was first Bartlett's acting postmaster from April 8, 1935 to his appointment as postmaster on July 16, 1935. He served until his death in 1940. |
