This salute to our nation’s 200th birthday in 1976 was designed by then 14 year-old Bartlett resident Craig Gillam who was a student at the then Eastview Junior High. He wrote on the back of his original artwork entry, "My bicentennial poster represented many ideas. The phrase ‘Progress with Pride’ means that Bartlett is progressing in many areas and the people are proud of it. The word ‘Hope’ is on the 1776 side for a reason. It means that we had hope for are [sic] freedom from King George. The word ‘Trust’ is on the 1976 side for a reason too. It means that after we won our hope we have trust in keeping it." Gillam, is pictured here in 2015, holding his artwork and the flag, |
