Helmet, size 7 3/8, plastic, black, with lifting amber plastic face shield, (missing bolt on left side) styrofoam liner covered in cloth, chin strap, metal ring on back to hang. Manufactured by Bell Toptex, Long Beach, CA. The Bell Toptex firefighter helmet has been credited in design to a member of the Veron, CA fire department who based it on the design of a Bell motorcycle helmet. Bell liked his concept and purchased the rights to produce it in the early 1970s. It was the first generation of modern style helmets |
