Chain, key, 4 1/2" long with ring x 1 3/4" w, plastic & metal, white with goldtone key ring, owl shape, Front- printed in goldtone, "Whooooo Wants your business? We do!," Back- printed in goldtone, "Thurnau & Benicke Arco Service, Complete Auto Service, 245 Main St., Bartlett, Ill., 837-2441" In 1948, Fred Benicke and his father-in-law Henry Thurnau opened Thurnau & Benicke Implement Co. at 245 S. Main Street providing sales, service and repairs for Massey Harris and New Idea farm implements. Later they added auto repair and a gasoline pumps due to the decreasing demand for farm machinery. Benicke sold the business to his son-in-law Tom Marth in 1976 who ran it as Tom’s Auto Service until it closing in 2001. The building was razed in 2002 for the Town Center. Note the "ARCO Service" on this key chain which helps in dating it. Initially the business was a Sinclair service station, but in 1969 Sinclair merged with ARCO. |
