Postcard, 5 1/2"w x 31/2"h, black & white, Front- real photograph, C. R. Childs photographer, standing in dirt road looking down street/sidewalk, lots of trees, home on right, two girls in front year, chickens running, sign on pole- "CT Co. Post no bills", written in black- "A View in Bartlett, Ill., 40504" The telephone poles in this image help to date it after 1901. The Chicago Telephone Company was granted rights in Bartlett that year making the telephone was available for those to opted to pay for it. Note on the pole is the sign, "CT Co. Post no Bills." A gas street lamp is to the right of the telephone pole. C. R. Childs, noted Chicago postcard photographer of the era, took this shot and numbered it "40504" in his offerings. Childs was standing on Oak Avenue looking west down Oneida Avenue. |
