Postcard, 5" x 3 1/4", black & white, real image, Front- three women wearing long dresses standing in the front yards with picket fence between and trees in bloom. Back- written in ink, "Blossoms are out full force Trees just loaded Our little tree first time 14 autos in town here New ones Fords- Mike & Heck[?], L Stumpf, H. Heine Reos, Buick- H. Thurnau and Schnadt" in another handwriting- "Mrs. Oltendorf, Mrs. Kelly, Grandma O'Brien, Left to right" Neighbors, left to right Mary Oltendorf, Lena Kelley and Sophia O'Brien chat in the front yards of their picket fence homes on Railroad Avenue in the this postcard image. The flowering tree is in full blossom as noted on the reverse side of the postcard along with the comments of the autos in town (read above in description). In the background can be spotted on the left is the Bartlett State Bank which opened in December 1910. On the right parallel to the railroad tracks is the village's first fire engine house, now razed. The O'Brien, Oltendorf and Schultz houses that once stood here have all been razed in the early 1960s for the building of a phone switching facility. |
