What brought 4,231 people to rural Bartlett in 1939, when the town itself only had a population of 608? It was The Little Stone Church in the Garden, located in the backyard of Martin and Grace Leiseberg Johnson at 210 W. Morse Avenue. Carpenter and master craftsman Martin built the beautiful, 6-foot tall replica of the 1860s-style church, along with a school and blacksmith shop, and opened the garden gates for all to enjoy his miniaturized hamlet. |
