Eugene Haase (1926-2003) was one of the young men from Bartlett who served in World War II. He was a naval 3rd class petty officer in the Pacific Theater from December 1944 to August 1946. He returned to Bartlett after the war and on April 12, 1948, married his hometown sweetheart Violet Jensen. Gene, pictured here with his necessities packed for a second tour of duty, was recalled to the Navy in 1951 to serve in the Korea War. His wife, Violet, took this picture as he was leaving their home on Oak Street. The July 13, 1951 Cook County Herald wrote, "Eugene Haase has reported to Great Lakes for active duty in the naval reserves. He served two and one-half years during World War II." |
