Image, Digital, black and white, Front- young girl wearing dress holding cat, standing outside, building on left, stacked objects on right, open vista behind with trees. Back- in pencil- "S.W. view Ma/cat, looking to Western Ave" Ruth Harming Giles (1916-2014), daughter of William and Ella Harmening, was born in 1916. After the passing of her mother in 1927, her father and her returned to Bartlett to live with William's parents, Henry and Caroline Harmening at 236 S. Hickory Avenue. Here Ruth, holding a cat, is standing in her grandparent's Bartlett backyard. In the background, looking west, is Western Avenue, just south of the train tracks. Today, Western Avenue is lined with homes from the train tracks south to Jervey Lane! |
