Print, photographic, 8 1/2" w x 11"h, sepia, man wearing suit sitting in chair in studio setting with woman standing next to him wearing long black dress with white veil. Frederick Schick and the diminutive Sophie Harmening were married on September 13, 1883 in a double ceremony with Sophie's brother Henry Harmening to Carolyn Hecht. More than 1,000 guest attended the reception on the Harmening farm once located on Lake Street. At that time in history, it was acceptable and common for the bride to wear black. The couple settled on the Schick family farm, located at what is today 28 W 218 Schick Road, purchased in 1865 by Fred's parents Gottlieb and Christina. |
