Description |
Transparency, slide, digital, color, Front- snow scene which includes of a rows of parked cars with building, trees in background. Bartlett has experienced many winter weather events throughout its history. This image is from the Blizzard of 1967 when 23 inches of snow fell in the Chicagoland area from January 26 through January 27. You are looking north from the window of The Eck, a tavern/restaurant that once stood at 121 W. Railroad Avenue. The snow-covered road in the foreground is Railroad Avenue. At that time, commuter parking was available east of the depot, as pictured here. There is additional commuter parking on the north side of the tracks. The first building on the left, with red awning, is 200 W. Bartlett Avenue. It was constructed in 1910 as the Bartlett State Bank. The street running perpendicular is Oak Avenue. Notice there is a dump truck on it, perhaps taking snow away. Look closely you can see a Phillips 66 sign. The gas station, built in 1932, stood at 151 S. Oak Avenue. It was razed in 2022. On the right, partial view, is 130 W. Bartlett Avenue, at that time home to Humbracht's Confectionary. |
