Image, digital, black & white, woman in long skirt, top with sweater vest standing next to man in dark one buttoned coat and hat, outside on sidewalk next to home, stairs in foreground, broom on porch, bucket under stairs, water pump and piece of machinery to right, snow on ground. Back- written in ink "Ray's Great-grandparents (Harmening), (who owned Bartlett Tavern)" Caroline Hecht Harmening (1861-1934) and her husband Henry Harmening (1860-1925) stand in the snow outside their 236 S. Hickory Avenue home in this undated photo. Caroline is dressed for daily chores with her long apron protecting her skirt. She was known to be a good cook and made the rinderwurst that was served for free during lunchtime at the Bartlett Tavern which Henry owned it from 1893 to 1906. Note the water pump to the right. It still works today! The image was copied and reprinted in Nov 1974. It originally dates to the 1920s. |
