Image, digital, sepia, Front- Illustrated December 10, 1899, baptism certificate of Carl W. Schult. On December 10, 1899, Carl W. Schult (1899-1961) was baptized at Immanuel United Church of Christ. This certificate serves as a record of the event. The church, chartered in 1891 by area German residents, is Bartlett's oldest continuing congregation. The certificate is written in German and includes illustrations and Bible verses. Rev. Carl Baumann, minister at the time, filled in the pertinent information on Carl including his birthday (August 26, 1899), his parents (William Schult and Wilhemina Eckhardt Schult) and his sponsors (Carl Schult, grandfather, and William Stumpf). The church seal is affixed at the bottom. Schult, a lifelong resident, married Viola Krumfuss and the couple had one child, Marilyn. The Schults resided on Oneida Avenue, next to his parents, where they had a beautiful rock garden in the backyard. Schult worked for the Milwaukee Road as a steam tester, general contractor and as a highway construction foreman for Elgin's Charles E. Giertz & Son Co. The museum has many examples of certificates from Immanuel, both tangible and digital, that record baptisms, confirmations and weddings. |
