Image, digital, black and white, 18 men in uniforms alined in a row outside in front of firefighting equipment and building. Sign on building reads, "Bartlett Vol. Fire Department" The Bartlett Volunteer Fire Department was chartered in 1897. Pictured here are the volunteers on September 8, 1957, standing in front of the "fire barn" located at 218 S. Main Street. In 1952, this 36' x 40' building, constructed by the volunteers, was dedicated. In 1958, construction of an addition to the front of the building began. Again, labor was done by the volunteers. An open house in January 1959 celebrated its completion for all to see. Left to right, Anthony Whitmer, Bill Rees, Lenny Heckman, Ernie Jacobson, Fred Benicke, Fred Kuester, John Steffensen, Harvey Rosenwinkel, Ralph Waterman, Roy Hinz, Bob Van Alstine, Elmer Hecht, Dick Lichthardt, Chester Kobel, Fred Peaslee, "Putzy" Schultz, Dick Populorum and Al Fraas. |
