Print, photographic, 8" x 10", black and white, Front- one man measuring log cabin model as two young boys look on inside workworking shop, tools in foreground and background. Back- part of newspaper story written by Arthur J. Snider, staff science writer, purple date stamp- "Sep 7, 1949" , caption for image reads- "Light activity mends hearts- A program of light activity assists in the recovery of rhematic heart patients at Herrick House. Jim Burk, counselor assists Harry Clinder, 7, and Salvatore Peri, 9, in building a bird house." Herrick House, initially a facility for children with rheumatic fever, was once located on West Bartlett Road, south side, just east of Route 59. The children who lived at the facility while in treatment, attended school, exercised outdoors and enjoyed many hands-on activities such as woodworking, pictured here. Salvatore, first on right, had his First Communion while there with three other residents in December 1949. |
