Color, Van 66 Service station float in the Firemen's Festival parade. Float is designed to look like a merry-go-round and it really went around. Here's a unique twist on a merry-go-round. The 1966 Firemen’s Festival parade, held during its annual August festival weekend, featured this float created by Van’s 66 gas station. Once located at 151 S. Oak Avenue, the station was then under the proprietorship of Bob Van Alstine. Instead of horses or other animals, it appropriately featured automobiles. The museum heard the autos even spun around! The parade was added in 1962, the festival’s 25th year, and remained on the schedule of events until the festival ended in 1969. |
