Print, photographic, 3 1/4" w x 4 1/2" h, black & white, Front- headshot of man wearing suit, tie, eyeglasses and uniform hat, image cut to this size prior to donation. William E. Bull (1879-1949) was born in Germany and immigrated to the United States. By the mid-1880s, Bull and his family were living in the Bartlett area. In 1900, Bull married Bartlett native Lillian O'Brien. The couple had twins in 1901, naming them Lester and Esther. Bull, whose education ended at the fourth grade, bought the meat market of Hoth & Humbracht, in 1910. In 1924, Bull purchased lots and built his new shop at 116 W. Bartlett Avenue with living quarter above for the family. Bull also an active in the Bartlett Volunteer Fire Department joining when it was formed in 1897. He was chief at the time this picture was taken. He served as chief from 1931 to his death in 1949. The full picture of 2014.21.15, and this image 2014.21.16, is the second image. |
