Bartlett was officially recognized as a Bicentennial Community by the American Revolution Bicentennial Administration in November 1974. Many events took place to celebrate the nation's 200 birthday including a picnic, dinner dance, costume contest, etc. The major celebration took place on Memorial Day 1976 and featured a parade, flea market, and a Civil War battle reenactment/activities, pictured here. Participating units included the 6th Wisconsin Volunteers, the 46th Illinois Infantry, the 12th South Carolina Volunteer Infantry and the 55th Headquarters of Illinois. The Civil War presentation took place in Bartlett Park. This image was featured in the May 30, 1976 edition of the "Chicago Sun-Times" and showed the muzzle team shoot. Using muzzle loading muskets, the men had to fire a certain number of rounds in a given time at the target. Score was kept and a team was declared the winner. |
