Print, photographic, 6 1/2" x 4 1/4", sepia, woman in long dark dress seated with two girls and two boys standing around her in front of floral backdrop. Mrs. Sophia Bull (1846-1894) with her children, William, Lewis, Mary and Hattie. The portrait was taken at C. S. Gerlach studio in Elgin. She and husband August were German immigrants arriving in the area in 1885. Son William, first on right, became the proprietor of Bartlett's Bull's Meat Market. He also served as chief of the Bartlett Volunteer Fire Department from 1931 to his death in 1949. |
