The Lemke family moved into Bartlett in the late 1940s. According to Lee, "It was a home that we later referred to as the 'OLD HOUSE'. Originally, it had a chicken coop that provided us with eggs. It had what seemed like a large yard that I was required to mow with a hand mower. However, it also had a backyard that was large enough for my softball field. Each year I hit enough home runs over the fence toward the tracks to beat Babe Ruth's home run record. The kids from the neighborhood, John Hilliard, Jim Wendler, Bruno Tabis, Cheri & Janet Marxen & others, played softball there…" |
