Image, digital, black & white, Front- 13 men in uniforms posing on a ship's deck, ocean in background. One of Bartlett's WW II servicemembers was Basil "Doc" Bing (1922-2003). Doc entered the U.S. Navy on December 22, 1942. He was initially stationed at NTS Great Lakes, IL before attending gunnery school at AGS Norfolk, VA. He is pictured here, back row first on right, on October 19, 1944 aboard the SS W. S. Jennings. Doc, a Gunner's Mate First Class (T), served in both the Pacific & European Theaters. He was honorably discharged on November 8, 1945 and returned to Bartlett to be with his wife Jane Humbracht Ping and their infant daughter Jean. The couple's second daughter Sandy was born in 1946. |
