Print, photographic, 8" x 10", black & white, Front- portrait of man wearing sportcoat, shirt, tie, logo of "American Masters 10th Anniversary", paragraph about Rod Sterling and retrospect of his work in TV industry. Back- nothing. Rod Serling (pictured here) was best known for being the creator of TV's "The Twilight Zone." However, Sterling does have a Bartlett connection. Sill being researched by museum staff, it is known that Serling worked at Bartlett's Herrick House, as a boys camp counselor. It is believed he did that as part of his schooling requirements while at student at Antioch College in Ohio, post his WW II service. Serling maintained connect with the facility even after his graduation. He returned to Herrick House for a visit in 1959 and spoke at their annual luncheon in 1960. He also continued to write to its director Mrs Eleanor. Eells. Herrick House, once located on W. Bartlett Road, was a facility for children with rheumatic fever. It closed in 1962 and all the building have been razed. |
