The Bartlett State Bank opened in 1910. It was the village's first financial institution. Prior to water in bottles and large travel tumblers, how did Bartlett residents stay hydrated when shopping in town especially during the hot summer months? We are sure they all were excited to read in July 7, 1927 Bartlett column, in the DuPage County Register that a drinking fountain had been installed in front of the Bartlett State Bank, located on Oak Avenue, not Main Street, the newspaper reported. Look closely and you can see it to the right of the fire hydrant. Unfortunately, the fountain does not exist anymore and perhaps it was short lived. In a 1950 image of the bank, it appears the fountain had been removed by that time. |
