Print, photographic, 10" w x 8"h, black & white, two-sided, Side 1- man wearing hat, eyeglasses shirt, tie, long pants, standing a table, in structure, with Bingo cage on table Side 2- Onlooker watch as blindfolded female is reaching arm into large roller cage, man on left wearing uniform is holding door to cage open, man on right, wearing white hat, patch on jacket reads- "Bartlett Fire Depart.", holes for binding down side The annual Bartlett Volunteer Firemen's Festival, which ran from 1938-1969, was a much anticipated and well attended August weekend event in Bartlett Park. The fundraiser for the department included carnival rides, bands, food, bingo and other games of chance. Bartlett resident Don Honick, a professional photographer, took the images of the festival and created a spiral bound book. Side 1- Erwin Schultz, one-time Bartlett rural letter carrier, is calling Bingo numbers at the Firemen's Festival. The games was very popular with attendees with the opportunity to win great prizes. Side 2- Left: Robert Van Alstine, back to camera, was in-charge of the car raffle tent. Here he holds the door open for unknown woman to reach in and pull the winning ticket. On right, Harvey Rosenwinkel, then fire department chief steadies the woman with his hand. |
