Anna Niewisch Kenneke Petersen (1888-1948) poses with her two young sons, Elroy Kenneke (1910-1992), left, and Edward Kenneke (1913-1989), right. The boys' beloved teddy bear is going along for the ride! Anna also had two more children, a daughter Lois and son James, with her second husband Hans Petersen. Anna was raised in Bartlett and prior to marrying and becoming a mom, she was a working gal. A 1905 newspaper noted, "Miss Anna Niewisch has secured a position in the city." After her divorce from her first husband Ernest Kenneke, she returned to the work force as a salesclerk in a general store. Her and the boys lived with her mother Mary and stepfather until she married Hans. |
