Description |
Transparency, slide, 2" x 2", color, streetview of two-story white sided home, screen porch on right, garage and driveway on left, center door, sidewalk, surrounded by trees, bushes. The photographer is standing on North Avenue and looking south at this home located at 227 W. North Avenue. It is a Colonial revival with attached garage, symmetrical balanced double hung windows, center door, hipped roof. The Robert "Bob" Wright family bought the property in October 1928. That same year, the Wright's family business, O. H. Wright & Co., bought the Bartlett coal, lumber, feed business of Heinke & Holtz. Bob Wright left the family's Belvidere offices and moved to Bartlett to manage the new addition to the chain. Omar H Wright, his grandfather, started the company in 1889 focusing and lumber and fuel in Belvidere. By 1939 the company had seven yards. Bartlett was fourth location to open in the chain. The room above the garage served as the maid's quarters at one time. |
