Image, digital, black & white, Front- two women, two men, pose outside on the running board of a piece of firefighting equipment. The once annual Bartlett Volunteer Fire Department's summer festival was the most eagerly awaited event of the year. Held over a weekend in August in Bartlett Park, it included games, rides, music, dancing and beer. The festival was held from 1938-1969 and it was the largest fundraiser for the department. It's the early 1940s and left to right, Elva Scollay Darling (1923-2007), Jerry Faber (1927-2020), Elaine Jensen Atchison (1924 -2014) and Allen Atchison (1928-2010) pose on the Hanover-Wayne Rural Fire League's International/Darley pumper purchased in 1938, that was on exhibit at the festival. Elaine married Allen's brother Melbourne in 1945. |
