Print, photographic, 8" x 10", black & white, Front- multiple family townhome unit, barn on left, white spilt rail fence in foreground with grass, bushes. Back- written in ink- "Hearthwood Farm Bartlett, newspaper snip of caption, grease pencil notes in orange, date stamped "Fri Mar 26 '82" U.S. Home opened its Hearthwood Farm community in 1981. Located off Devon Avenue, the development consisted of 320 "country manor homes" in 39 buildings. Units were initially priced from $49,950 to $73,450 with monthly assessments of $60. The price included a private garage, air conditioning, gas oven, ceramic tile bath, mirrored medicine cabinets, patio or balcony and more. A cathedral ceiling was optional in some second-floor homes. A typical unit was 1,141, square feet. A community swimming pool with cabana and walking paths were also part of the complex. By 1985, 90 units were sold and four new models were added, the Arlington, Applewood, Berkshire and Buckingham. The caption associated with this 1982 images noted purchasing the one-bedroom model, with a 1 ½ percent FHA-insured mortgage, the monthly payment would be $491! The barn, now razed, and the property was once the farm of the William R. Leiseberg family. |
