Author |
Eleanor Eells |
Summary |
The description on the back reads as follows: "The first definitive history of the field of organized camping - an exciting and fascinating reading adventure exploring a uniquely American institution: the summer camp. A history of the first 100 years, written by one whose life in that field spans 70 years of the period, the book provides as authentic glimpse into early beginnings and is a chronicle of the greats and near greats who first began organized camping. Names long familiar to the summer camp world begin to take on life and movement." The description goes on to describe the book content and breakdown. At the bottom of the cover is information about the author. Eleanor Eells' role as full-time director at the Bartlett's Herrick House began in 1941. Herrick House was dedicated to helping children across race and economic tiers in their recovery from rheumatic fever. Eells would stay with the Herrick House until she retired in January of 1960. |
