Summary |
Booklet, 11' x 8 1/2" folded, stapled, 17 pages not counting covers, contains letter from Dr. Herrick and information concerning Herrick House's growth, explanation of rheumatic fever, president's report, board of directors, 1950 financial report, the benefits of Herrick House for children and the Max Straus Summer Camp. Herrick House was once located at the southeast corner of Route 59 and West Bartlett Road. Opening in 1939, the facility was established for children with rheumatic fever. Herrick House remained under private control until purchased by the Cook County Board of Commissioners in 1964. It has been told to the museum, but not verified, the first African American to live in Bartlett, was employed at Herrick House. TV personality Rod Sterling briefly worked there after his WW II service. |
