Letter, 8 1/2" w x 11" l, paper, white, Front- written to the Board of Education, Elgin Public Schools by Richard Stromberg, architect, asking to proceed on the addition to Bartlett School and if any changes to submitted sketches would be taking place. In 1957, a much-needed proposed addition was already in the works for Bartlett School. This letter, dated January 7, 1957, was sent to Orrin Thompson, then superintendent of District U-46, by Architect Richard Stromberg, of Elgin, asking for confirmation of this plan and if there were any changes to be made to his sketches already submitted. That November residents were asked to approve a $2,982,000 bond issue covering a six-point school expansion. Polls were open from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in Bartlett, Elgin, South Elgin, Wayne and Ontarioville. The proposed new buildings included three elementary schools, one junior high school and additions to two elementary schools, with one being Bartlett. The Bartlett addition was estimated to cost $204,000. The referendum passed and in February 1958, contracts were awarded for the addition containing "six classrooms, a kindergarten room, and administration area" designed by Stromberg who is credited with designing Ellis, Coleman and Huff schools in Elgin. |
