Letter, digital two, one-sided pages, dated Tuesday, November 13, 1951, addressed to Myrt, Joe & Bonnie, written by Eugene "Gene" Haase from the ship he was stationed on, the U.S.S. Salisbury Sound AV-13, during his service in the Korean War. He used ship's stationary. Gene writes his sister, Myrtle Haase Kunos, his brother-in-law Joe Kunos and niece Bonnie Kunos, about the local weather mentioning with was hot and sunny compared to the snow Myrtle wrote him about back in Illinois. Though Gene says he would rather have the snow then be fighting a war. He explains the meaning of his ship's AV-13 numbering. He also explains about the number of "guys" on each watch and says you don't lonely. He received a copy "The Roselle Register," a local paper and enjoyed reading the local news. "Arhens" is mentioned as "back home" in Bartlett. This is Howard Ahrens. He very seldom wrote his mother during service. "Vi" is Violet and Eugene's wife. |
